Sometimes the best restaurant is simply the one closest to where you're already working.

JBSA currently lists dining options at all three major installations. At Fort Sam Houston, options include Back Swing Café and Breakpoint Café. Lackland has Gateway Club Grill, Greenside Grill and Ten Pin Cafe, while Randolph has Gil's Pub, Mulligan's Grill and Sparetime Grill.

These can be especially convenient during a busy duty day when you don't have time to leave the installation.

📍 Where Should You Eat?

Your best options will depend on your duty station:

🌮 Make September Your Food-Exploration Month

One of the easiest ways to get comfortable in a new city is to explore its local food scene.

If you're newly PCS'd to San Antonio, pick one restaurant each week and try something you've never had before. You may discover a new favorite just minutes from your installation.

San Antonio's restaurant scene is also constantly changing. Several notable restaurants closed in August 2026, including Noy's Thai Bistro in Universal City, so it's always smart to check current hours and availability before heading out.

Whether you're stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Lackland or Randolph, you don't have to go far to find great food.

From Greek and Filipino cuisine to seafood, Southern comfort food, burgers and local favorites, September is a great time to get out and explore San Antonio one
