If you’ve read our monthly market updates, you already know where San Antonio stands in terms of desirability.  If you’re a current resident, you get it.  If not, you will soon because... Forbes just released their latest article on The Best Places to Retire in 2021 and Ding, Ding, Ding, you guessed it...San Antonio has made the list!

Amongst 25 spots in 18 different States, it’s an impressive feat to land a spot, never mind the fact that it’s a spot on Forbes!  To make it on this list there were many factors taken into consideration including but not limited to the following:

  • State Taxes

  • Climate Change

  • Affordability

  • Medical Care

  • Crime

  • Natural Disaster Risk

  • Air Quality

  • Activities

  • Local Economy

  • Median Home Price

  • Cost of Living

  • Walkability/Bikeability

With a population of nearly 1.5 Million, San Antonio ranks number seven amongst the country’s largest states. The list of things to do in the area goes on and on but we’re sure that there are some attractions that allow the city to stand out such as:

  • River Walk

    • The ultimate spot for shopping, sightseeing, food, and fun.  The River Walk is 15 miles long and allows you to either walk by path or hop on a river barge for a guided tour

  • Alamo

    • Experience interactive tours, exhibits, and reenactments of the Texas Revolution. A great way to learn about the history of the Alamo and take a walk through the Alamo Gardens.

  • Hill Country

    • An outdoor retreat consisting of swimming holes, ranches, limestone, and granite hills, Hill Country allows you to experience the best of country and city life.  Hit the shops, go hiking/biking, or even check out a vineyard tour (or two!).  It may be a 90-minute drive outside of San Antonio, but it is a MUST!

Among the big ones are also a plethora of other attractions such as:

  • Natural Bridge Caverns and Wildlife Ranch

  • Botanical Garden

  • TopGolf

  • Museums

  • Market Square

  • The Zoo

  • Sea World

  • Six Flags

  • Tower of the Americas

  • Ripley’s Believe it or Not

  • Alamo Beer Company

  • Theaters

  • Dave & Buster’s

  • Confluence Park

  • LEGOLAND

  • Escape Rooms

  • Indoor Skydiving

  • Cruises

  • Double Decker Tours

...and MORE

So, what was it specifically that San Antonio brings to the table to make it on a list like this? Here are the attributes that stood out most:

  • No State Income or Estate Tax
