Before moving out of your military housing you will have to pass your move out inspection. Although it’s not a fun process, it is a necessary one so today we’re sharing with you some tips to help you get your home ready for inspection.

Be sure to save this post so you can refer back to it when the time comes - you don’t want to forget anything on your move out list!

  • Cleaning Supplies

Here are some ideas of what to include on your shopping list:

  1. Paper Towels

  2. Mop/Bucket/Vacuum

  3. Broom and dustpan

  4. Magic Erasers

  5. Oven Cleaner

  6. Floor cleaner

  7. Toilet bowl cleaner and brush

  8. Floor Cleaner

  9. Glass Cleaner

  10. Kitchen/Bathroom cleaning spray

  • Inspection Checklist

This will include information as it relates to cleaning requirements, damage repair costs and when all of your belongings need to be out by.

  • Repairs

This should be done as soon as you even have an inkling that your spouse is about to receive an order.  Note that some housing offices will require that repairs be done before you even give your notice so it is wise to look into your home office’s policy.

  • Go Through the Checklist

Be sure to spray and wipe down things such as your showers/tubs and stoves, sinks, mirrors and toilets. Once you have done that it is time to mop your floors, clean any staircases and closets, and wash windows. Lastly some offices may require you to have your carpets professionally cleaned. If that’s the case, you will want to make sure that this is the last thing you do before you leave and will need to keep your receipt as proof!

  • Clean Appliances

You will want to be sure to clean your stove (including the hood and vent cover), your refrigerator (shelves and all), microwave, dishwasher and any and all countertops/cabinets.

  • Clean Outside

Not only will you want to be sure the inside of the home is pristine, but you will also want to do the same for the exterior of your home. Before you leave be sure you have mowed the lawn, picked up any debris in your yard and swept around the outside of your house, the garage and any porch areas.

Have you gone through this process before?  If so then you know it can end up taking a lot longer than anticipated.  It’s wise to stay on top of things as frequently as possible to eliminate any future stressors when it comes time for you to begin the move out process. Here’s to a smooth move-out inspection!
