Out with the old and in with the new

Keeping up with the times and staying relevant with “what’s hot” can be time consuming (and overwhelming!). We spend so much time in our homes and it's such a special sight to see it all come together and start to feel and look like the home that you always envisioned.

With that being said, if you are looking to get your house ready for the market anytime soon, consider these trends that are going out of style when preparing your house for its new occupants.

All White Everything:

That all white look can leave us feeling so refreshed as it provides a sense of calmness and cleanliness however, it’s not here to stay.  Instead of all white interiors, it is predicted that many homeowners will dabble with different color patterns and textures.  When it comes to the kitchen, it is suggested to incorporate luxury tiles and stones such as onyx, breccia and rich-veined marble.

Accent Walls:

Once a popular addition to your space, the accent wall is now said to be too distracting and thus, wallpaper is making a comeback!  The beauty of wallpaper is that you can find different types that are easy to take off so that you don’t have to be locked into one style.

Going Green

It is likely that you will begin to see the color green making an appearance in households, more specifically for kitchen cabinets.   Speaking of green, we are also hearing that “faux” is a “no” so be prepared to start adding some natural/organic materials into your space instead.

Slipcovers:

Yup, it’s time to say goodbye to your slip-covers.  More and more furniture is being manufactured to be stain resistant and durable so that they can withstand all of the spills and scratches that oftentimes feel inevitable.

Shiplap:

We hate to hear it but sadly, shiplap is leaving the home going back to its roots at sea.  If you’ve had experience with shiplap, you’ll know that it is not easy to keep clean and leaves your drywall with many open wounds. Instead of shiplap, recommended replacements are things like living plant walls, malacca, tile and even plaster.

At the end of the day, your home is your own space that allows you to be as creative as you wish! As long as it feels right to you, other’s opinions should never hold you back.  If home trends are anything like clothing/fashion trends...it’s only a matter of time until they will be back, anyway!
