Millennials. They are out there. Finding good jobs and settling into good neighborhoods. You might find the locations surprising where motivated millennials seem to be gathering.



With the summer military move cycle in the New Year ahead, an abundance of military families will be packing up from their West Coast nest and setting their GPS for an East Coast destination, or, vice versa. These travel-savvy explorers will follow the ribbons of interstate highways that crisscross this grand country. Beyond a military transfer, the idea of trekking around the United States may have you thinking about where many of the young (and young at heart) are choosing to work and play. Narrowing it down to the Millennial generation, those born from 1981-1996, the National Association of Realtors® has been researching where millennials seem to be congregating. Seattle

From Lake City to Queen Anne to Georgetown, the wide variety of Seattle neighborhoods give a millennial home buyer plenty of options to find their niche. Even though the city of Seattle includes a noticeable sales tax, millennials will be happy to report the state of Washington has zero state income tax.

Bakersfield

Millennial home shoppers in Bakersfield will think they are “California Dreamin’”, realizing they can indeed afford to buy their own house in the “Golden State”. Nearly 15% of Bakersfield property listings are within an affordable price point.

Salt Lake

A copious amount of jobs are available in the Salt Lake City area, particularly for those around the age range of 22 - 37. Those millennials into skiing and snowboarding will be stoked their new Salt Lake City address is within reach of the nearby slopes.

Over 20% of homes on the market in El Paso will fit the budget of today’s millennials. If inspired by a renovation tv show, “Sun City” is an ideal spot for a 20-something or 30-something to sharpen their DIY skills and remodel a residence.

Denver

Hiking, biking, and sightseeing are go-to weekend plans when the Rocky Mountains are in Denver’s backyard. Much like Seattle, millennials in Denver can have their pick of unique neighborhoods, even if some places may come with a bit of sticker shock.

If home ownership is on a millennial’s bucket list, then a visit to Omaha is in order. An ideal location to grow a career or grow a family, millennials will approve of Omaha’s affordable vibe for living well.

Millennials searching for that small town feel with big city amenities will find it all in Oklahoma City. An astounding 30% of listings in the “OKC” are giving millennials property purchasing power.

If sustainability is a priority, Madison’s green initiatives will appeal to 20 and 30 something’s. Similar to Oklahoma City, 30% of housing inventory is within reach for millennials to become Madison homeowners.

Keeping it fresh! A popular trend millennials can join in on is gathering farm fresh offerings with a Grand Rapids community-supported agriculture (CSA). Another good choice for Grand rapids millennials is investing in the positive real estate market.
